LAB-TESTED FIELD-PROVEN

Cover Crops That Work as Hard as You Do

Every cover crop seed lot is tested through university and independent research trials to ensure its efficacy.

GOLD SOURCE™ COVER CROP MIXES

Cover Crop Mixes from Simplot Grower Solutions harness naturally-occurring chemical agents to suppress nematodes, insects, weeds, fungal pathogens and other problems while attracting pollinators and enriching your fields' soil biology. By maintaining living roots in undisturbed soil, you'll experience reduced soil erosion and prevent leaching and loss of nutrients and farm inputs.

The Bottom Line?

Smart use of cover crops can boost farm productivity and sustainability for greater crop success.

Soil Health #1

Winter Peas, Triticale, Common Vetch, Radish

Planting rate: 60-80 lbs/ac

  • Improves soil permeability for increased air and water penetration. Reduces soil compaction, breaks up hard-pans and increases root development potential of the following crop.
  • Improves soil structure through large biomass.
  • Fixes significant atmospheric nitrogen for increased soil nitrogen levels.
  • Performs best when used prior to corn, wheat or other crops requiring significant nitrogen inputs.

Soil Health #2

 Annual Ryegrass, Crimson Clover, Radish

Planting rate: 15-25 lbs/ac

  • Recycles nutrients that would have been lost to leaching and runoff.
  • Improves soil permeability for increased air and water penetration. Reduces soil compaction, breaks up hard-pans and increases root development potential of the following crop.
  • Fixes significant atmospheric nitrogen for increased soil nitrogen levels.
  • Improves soil organic matter.
  • Is widely adapted where soil erosion is an issue.

Soil Compaction

Winter Peas, Triticale, Radish

Planting rate: 40-60 lbs/ac

  • Establishes rapidly to prevent wind and water erosion
  • Improves soil permeability for increased air and water penetration. reduces soil compaction, breaks up hard-pans and increases root development potential of the following crop.
  • Improves organic matter: Carbon sequestration
  • Recycles nutrients that would have been lost to leaching or runoff.

Erosion Control

Annual Ryegrass, Radish

Planting rate: 15-25 lbs/ac

  • Improves soil permeability for increased air and water penetration. Reduces soil compaction, breaks up hard-pans and increases root development potential of the following crop.
  • Recycles nutrients that would have been lost to leaching or runoff.
  • Holds surface soil in place and establishes rapidly.
  • Aggregates soil with a fibrous root system, making a mellow seedbed, which can benefit any following crop and improve the soil.

Pollinator Blend

Safflower, Crimson Clover, Common Vetch, Phacelia, Mustard

Planting rate: 20-25 lbs/ac

  • New mix that is used to attract pollinators and beneficial insects as well as many other benefits that cover crops provide with the addition of nitrogen-fixing legumes and phacelia to help scavenge soil P.

Spring Forage Mix

Spring Peas, Spring Barley, Spring Oats, Purple Top Turnips, Forage Collards, Radish

Planting rate: 90-110 lbs/ac

  • New mix to be planted in early Spring for an annual pasture for livestock

Winter Forage Mix

Winter Peas, Winter Oats, Winter barley, Winter Wheat, Seven Top Turnips, Forage Collards

Planting rate: 90-110 lbs/ac

  • New mix to be planted late Summer to early Fall with a selection of cover crop species that are able to survive most winters and provide additional forage for livestock in late Winter.

Budget Mix

Triticale, Buckwheat

Planting rate: 80-85 lbs/ac

  • Quality green, clean and growing cover crop.

Fallow Mix

Annual Ryegrass, Crimson Clover, Common Vetch, Phacelia, Radish, Mustard

Planting rate: 30-35 lbs/ac

  • Use to revitalize your fields that are coming out of a fallow setting before going back into production agriculture.
